Start spreadin’ the news…

Day 18: The Studio at Webster Hall
New York City

I’ve been all around the country, so I can say from experience, that there is truly no city like New York. The sheer volume of people, each with their own agendas, writing chapters in their own story as they all trudge along, a mass of solitary individuals, yet somehow seeming to move in a controlled chaotic symphonic unity. If you haven’t experienced it, you’ll have a hard time painting the true picture in your mind. Seeing it in a movie or picture doesn’t give you the sensory overload that is New York. The sights, sounds, and smells of the city come at you from literally every angle, 24 hours a day.
I remember when we were in Houston, Nate and I were talking about one of the main differences about New York as compared to most other U.S. cities is, in most cities people only work in the metro areas… They live in the suburbs and commute in for their jobs. After 5, so many cities that we’ve been to take on a semi post-apocalyptical feel to them, with the only people lumbering about being the homeless, or the crackheads, shuffling along in what almost seems like a sad kind of homage to classic zombie films. Not New York though. The city has earned its moniker as the ‘City that never sleeps’ for just that reason. If in the middle of the night you wake up and decide you want Chinese food, you can get it.
While I love NYC, I personally don’t think I could live there. I love visiting and could even spend some extended time there, but I think the fresher air of the mountains has me a bit spoiled.
Having a night off before playing a hometown show, in my opinion, helps a lot. It gives everyone time to deal with any issues that may have come up while we were on the road, and let’s everyone shake any road weariness off and bring it tough.
The show went off with no issues, we had a great crowd and the club was very happy. Nate had to head up to a wedding in the Berkshires, so I hitched a ride home with him for the weekend off.
I know I’m a few days behind here, but I’ll catch y’all up fast, no worries!
